The Pencil's Charm: A Poetic Reflection on Childhood Memories

I can't pinpoint exactly when the idea for this poem began to take shape, but the theme has been constantly swirling in my mind, compelling me to write about it. And here I am, excited to share it with you! Writing this poem has brought me immense joy as it allows me to reminisce about the golden days of my childhood. While those memories may be a bit foggy, I cherish them deeply, often recalling stories from my parents and family. Those were truly wonderful days that I miss dearly. If God were to grant me a wish, I would ask without hesitation to relive my childhood once more.

Memories of pencil

I know  You know,

All my wishes below.

Will You please do me a favour?

Take me back to that sweet flavour,

Of being a pencil once again,

With carefree days and little pain.

I want my eraser by my side,

Where no mistakes can ever hide.

I once wished to be a pen,

But now I see, time and again—

They say you never care for what you’ve got,

Until it’s gone and leaves you with thought.

Its writing fades, mistakes erased,

How unfortunate the pen, its charm displaced.

The pen can never match the pencil’s ease,

It’s bound to leave what time won’t please.

With an eraser, it could be free,

No judgment cast, no fault to see.

This is my second poem in English, and I am thrilled to post it. I believe it will resonate with your own childhood memories as well. In this poem, I use the pencil to symbolize the sweetness and innocence of childhood, while the pen represents the challenges and harsh realities of adulthood. I truly hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
